A Regina resident for over forty years, John Peet was born in St. John’s, NL. and raised in Montreal. In 1978 he started to work in clay at the University of Regina Extension Pottery. He was soon exhibiting and marketing his work widely.

In 1988 he volunteered with CUSO at a women’s pottery co-op in The Gambia, West Africa. On returning to Regina in 1990 John entered the BFA program at the University of Regina, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction and was the recipient of the W. A. Riddell Award in 1994.

 

From 1990 until 2000 John taught community ceramic classes for the City of Regina and continued to created and exhibited his work.

 

John worked at the MacKenzie Art Gallery, Regina, 1998 – 2016, holding the positions of Installations Officer, Curatorial Project Manager and Gallery Shop Manager. 

 

Since leaving the gallery he has been concentrating on his ceramic practice, winning the Outstanding Entry Award in the Saskatchewan Craft Council’s juried biannual exhibition both Dimensions 2019 and 2021. John also created a solo exhibition My Grandfather’s Pictures for the Dunlop Art Gallery, Sherwood Village Branch in 2021.

His work is included in several public collections, including the Saskatchewan Arts Board the City of Regina and the Moose Jaw Art Gallery.
